An Australian tertiary education can be a very valuable asset. Not only will you be getting a world-class education, but your English will improve exponentially and you will be given access to further visas and more points should you decide to stay in Australia permanently.
After successful completion of a qualifying degree, you will become eligible for the 485 visa which allows you to stay in Australia and potentially look for a sponsoring employer.
Things to look out for include whether your university of choice has a CRICOS code and whether you meet the English requirements.
The most common stumbling block for the student visa is what is known as the Genuine Temporary Entrant or GTE requirement. This basically needs to be fulfilled in order to show that you are not only studying for the sake of gaining residency, but actually are here to further your education and improve your employment prospects in your originating country and abroad. Things can become very ambiguous here as Australia has provided avenues for people in certain fields to obtain residency, whilst also prioritising the GTE provision.
